Scrapbooking the People Who Make You Laugh and Smile

You know all the people in your life who make you laugh and smile? Today's blog post is all about making photo captions and journaling blocks to go with those happy and funny photos!

In this blog post I am going to show several project ideas and share tips for using the brand-new Laugh and Smile stamps. These stamps are designed to work by themselves to help you make photo captions, journaling blocks, and accents for your layouts. And they get even better when you use these stamps and the matching sets of dies together!

Laugh-smile-intro-blog-post-photos10

I've been using a Traveler's Notebook to keep a gratitude journal. I used the Laugh and Smile stamps to make a bunch of pre-made phrases that I plan to use in my gratitude journal. I hope you get some ideas about how you can use these stamps and dies for your own scrapbook pages and memory keeping projects!

Tt-separator

Step 1:
Line the stamps up on your stamp positioner.

When you are using solid stamps like these, you often need to stamp everything more than once to make sure you have good ink coverage. That's where a stamp position really helps. Since I was stamping a bunch of these smile and laugh completer phrases, in several different colors, I wanted to make sure they were stamped perfectly so I knew I would probably have to stamp them more than once.

Laugh-smile-intro-blog-post-photos1

Most stamp positioners also have grid lines. I recommend you use the grid lines to get the stamps lined up as straight as possible. The straighter your stamping the easier it will be to cut out the completer phrase strips later.

Step 2:
Use extra magnets to hold your paper down.

Solid stamps, like these completer phrase stamps (and some kinds of ink) are rather sticky. To help make sure your paper doesn't move, cut out some smaller pieces of paper. I cut out several 2.25" x 4" pieces of smooth white card stock. I also recommend sliding your paper as tight as possible into a corner of your stamp positioner. Then, if your paper does move, you can just push it right back into the corner and usually get it back into the right place.

Laugh-smile-intro-blog-post-photos2

Step 3:
Apply a generous amount of ink.

When you are using solid stamps, like these laugh and smile completer phrases, you'll need to use more ink to get good coverage. I used Versamagic ink for my projects. I find they work well with solid stamps. And I love the opaque, velvety look the Versamagic inks create!

Laugh-smile-intro-blog-post-photos3

Here's another tip. If you are using die-based ink, the ink may appear blotchy right after you stamp. Usually if you give the ink a little time, the die ink will spread out a little and things will look better.

Step 4:
Stamp the completer phrases several times. And run your fingers or the palm of your hand across the stamp positioner to make sure all the ink is transferred to the paper.

Laugh-smile-intro-blog-post-photos11

Step 5:
Cut out your completer phrases. I used my paper trimmer and extra sharp scissors to cut mine out. I also used some foam adhesive to make some of the completer phrases be more dimensional.

Laugh-smile-intro-blog-post-photos8

Step 6:
Stamp all the different Laugh and Smile words so you have some of them in your stash too. And you may want to also die cut out some of the scripty Laugh and Smile words!

The Layered Smile dies include both the scripty word smile, a mat die that you can either stamp on or layer with the scripty die cut, and some little accents you can use to highlight your photos or journaling. (If you are a member of the Fresh Cut Studio auto-ship program, the Layered Smile dies will be in in your June auto-shipment.)

In addition, there is a separate set of Layered Laugh dies that work the same way. (We made them a separate set so that both of these sets of dies would be more affordable.)

Make Your Own Embossed Vellum Butterflies

Hi everyone! This is Bev and today I get to introduce you all to Nathalie. In this blog post, Nathalie shares some ideas about how to make heat-embossed vellum butterflies. Her gorgeous layout will inspire you to make some vellum butterfly accents for your next card, scrapbook page, or decor project! (If you'd rather watch Nathalie's process video, hop on over to our website!)

Tt-separator

Hi there! I am Nathalie, and I am so excited to have been invited to be a guest designer here at Technique Tuesday. I love stamps because they are one of the most versatile tools when memory keeping, and this month’s new releases - the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set and the matching Beautiful Butterflies Silhouettes stamps - were the inspiration for the layout that I am sharing with you all today.

1_TT_CELEBRATE-EVERYDAY-THINGS_MAY'19_Nathalie-DeSousa-2

To start this layout, I created a series of labels using the Essential Stitched Labels Dies with different patterned papers. The idea was to create a column of labels that loosely resembled a tiled background. However, I did not glue the labels to the background immediately.

2_TT_CELEBRATE-EVERYDAY-THINGS_MAY'19_Nathalie-DeSousa_close-ups

Using color inks to match those of the papers, a series of images from the Beautiful Butterflies Stamp Set were stamped onto vellum. I chose to emboss all the images using different colored embossing powders so that vellum butterfly accents have a two tone look on them. Since the color ink was used to stamp the images, the underside of each vellum butterfly has a different color from the embossed side. These were all fussy cut and set aside. (Instead of fussy cutting you could use the matching Beautiful Butterflies Crafting Dies to cut out your vellum butterfly accents.)

3_TT_CELEBRATE-EVERYDAY-THINGS_MAY'19_Nathalie-DeSousa-4

To construct the layout, the Beautiful Butterflies Silhouette stamp was used to create silhouette images of the butterflies around the labels in coordinating colors to the ones used on the vellum butterflies. Some of the stamped butterflies were added before gluing the label to the background while others were added to already adhered labels. To each silhouette, the coordinating embossed vellum butterfly images were added with glue dots, so that dimension was created on the wings.

4_TT_CELEBRATE-EVERYDAY-THINGS_MAY'19_Nathalie-DeSousa_close-ups-3

To finish the page, a few embellishments were added to some of the labels, and around the picture in clusters. The title was then added by using one of the labels created with the Essential Stitched Labels Dies and a sentiment from the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set.

5_TT_CELEBRATE-EVERYDAY-THINGS_MAY'19_Nathalie-DeSousa

I hope this has inspired you to use the new Beautiful Butterflies and Beautiful Butterflies Silhouettes on projects of your own. I am sure you will love the results.

June Sneak Peek Day 1 - A Reason to Smile!

SneakPeeks-Day-1

As usual, I cannot believe June is almost here! We here in the Pacific Northwest have been flirting with warmer weather. School is nearly out. We've had several days that were mostly sunny. And this all means that people around here are actually smiling and laughing a little more too.

Our first sneak peek is all about documenting memories of times that made you smile and laugh. Here's a quick look at this month's Memory Keepers' Studio stamp set.

June-2019-Sneak-Peek-MKS

The Fresh Cut Studio dies that are coming out in June will also give you a reason to smile. These dies are layered and will help you add a little dimension to your layouts and cards!

Butterfly Embellishments for Your Scrapbook or Handmade Cards

Hi everyone! This is Bev and I am delighted to introduce Sheree Forcier to all of you. In today's blog post she shares some ideas about how to make gorgeous butterfly embellishments for your scrapbook pages (or handmade cards). I love the lovely, airy layout that Sheree created!

Tt-separator

Hi everyone! Sheree Forcier here and I’m so excited to be here as a guest designer for May and June! Today I have a layout to share with you featuring the gorgeous Beautiful Butterflies Stamp Set and the matching Beautiful Butterflies Silhouettes Stamp Set.

Make-Things-Happen-pic-1

I layered some white cardstock onto two pieces of patterned paper then decided where I wanted my photo to go. I added some machine stitching around the edge of the white cardstock background and to the top right corner of the photo, then added some die cut flowers and leaves.

I cut a white label using the Essentials Stitched Labels Dies, then stamped the sentiment from the Beautiful Butterflies Stamp Set in the center using black ink. The label was placed to the left of the photo and I added a line of machine stitching across the middle. I also stamped the ‘lovely’ stamp from the Beautiful Butterflies Silhouettes Stamp set multiple times at the top right of the photo.

Make-Things-Happen-pic-2

Next was the fun part…stamping the butterflies! To create the multi-coloured butterfly embellishments for this scrapbook page, I simply stamped the different butterflies directly onto patterned paper and cut them out. (I didn't have the matching dies but you could use them to avoid having to fussy cut out the butterflies.) This is a great, easy way to add colour to an image if you don’t have many coloured inks in your stash or if you’re not very confident working with markers.

Make-Things-Happen-pic-3

Before adhering the butterflies to the page, I decided where I wanted them to go, then created a shadow for them using the Beautiful Butterflies Silhouettes Stamps and a lovely neutral coloured ink. I stamped directly onto the white cardstock, then added some machine stitched butterfly trails before adding the butterflies with foam dots to create extra dimension.

Make-Things-Happen-pic-4

The journaling strips were added to the top left of the page and machine stitched, and the date was added to finish it off

Make-Things-Happen-pic-5

If you’d like to watch my process you can see how I put it all together in the video below.

I hope I’ve given you a few ideas on how you can add dimension to your next project using the Beautiful Butterflies Stamp Set with the Beautiful Butterflies Silhouettes Stamp Set. They have been so much fun to create with!

Make-Things-Happen-pic-6

Thanks so much for joining me today! Happy crafting!

Sheree

I love the wandering lines of stitching that indicate the butterflies' flight paths. And I adore the way Sheree used the butterfly silhouette stamps to make shadows for the detailed butterfly accents. These subtle details add a sense of movement, dimension, and bring the design together!

Life at Home Layout Tutorial Featuring the Love Home Stamp Set

Hi Everyone! This is Bev. I am so excited to welcome Ashley Horton to our blog today. I have admired Ashley's traditional scrapbook layouts and Traveler's Notebook projects for a long time. When she agreed to be a Guest Designer for us, I knew we would see some awesome projects. I hope you enjoy Ashley's tutorial!

Ashley-Horton-30079345_175526506432994_5259319270793281536_nHi there! I’m Ashley Horton, and I’m so excited to be a Guest Designer with Technique Tuesday during the months of March and April. Today, I am sharing a layout in my Traveler’s Notebook, using the Love Home Stamp Set . I love working with stamp sets, because they are so easy to use for any project you are creating, whether it’s Traveler’s Notebooks, cards, scrapbook layouts, etc.

Life-At-Home-Love-Home-Essential-Stitched-Labels-Travelers-Notebook-Ashley-H-Tecnhnique-Tuesday

I started my Traveler's Notebook layout with a large photo and paired it with a Pie Chart patterned paper in the TN insert. In the center of the Pie Chart, I stamped the "Life at Home" sentiment as the title of my layout. Sentiments in your stamp sets, can easily be used as the title for your project, and I love that you can use them over and over again. Then I added a little bit of journaling and embellishing to complete the left-hand side of the layout.

Life-At-Home-Love-Home-Essential-Stitched-Labels-Travelers-Notebook-Ashley-H-Tecnhnique-Tuesday-3

I thought it would be fun to include some stamping on the photo, so I used the Oval & Rectangle Stitched Label Dies with a rainbow patterned paper. I loved that the rainbow patterned paper coordinated with the Pie Chart colors. Then I stamped two sentiments in black ink, from the Love Home stamp set onto the die cut pieces. I placed one at the top right-hand side and one at the bottom left hand side of the photo. Placing the two stamped sentiments this way, helped to add great balance to my TN layout.

Life-At-Home-Love-Home-Essential-Stitched-Labels-Sneak-Peek-Ashley-H-Tecnhnique-Tuesday

And I just couldn’t finish this TN layout, without using the cute bird house image from the stamp set. I knew it would be great to use it to create a fussy cut embellishment. I stamped the bird house in black ink on two different patterned papers. Next, I cut out the pieces and trimmed away the bottom portion of the bird house on one of the patterned papers. I adhered the roof to the other part of the bird house and then placed it at the top of the Pie Chart.

Life-At-Home-Love-Home-Essential-Stitched-Labels-Travelers-Notebook-Ashley-H-Tecnhnique-Tuesday-2

I hope you’ve found some inspiration for using the Love Home Stamp Set on your upcoming projects. And try mixing the stamps with the Oval & Rectangle Stitched Labe Dies to add some extra interest to whatever you’re working on!

I hope you all enjoyed Ashley's tutorial and Traveler's Notebook project as much as I have!
