Faux-Fabric Stamped Hippo Card Tutorial
Hi all! It's Julie, and I am here with a new tutorial from Norine. Today she is showing how you can make adorable stamped animals that look like they are made out of fabric!
Hello friends! Norine here, back again with some cards that feature the adorable Helen and Harry the Hippos stamps and dies. All of my hippos this month got a fun fabric-styled coloring treatment. I felt like that made them look like cute stuffies and made them suitable for a baby card in particular, and sweet, fun cards in general.
For each card, I stamped the Helen/Harry Hippo image onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and die cut them with the matching hippo dies. I colored the die-cut hippos with alcohol markers, including Copics and Spectrum Noir markers, and added “fabric-like” details with either a permanent, fine tipped Copic Liner pen for thin black lines or an alcohol blender pen for the white polka dots.
For the baby card, I colored the hippo in shades of purple and added “plaid” lines. I wanted to make a fun shaker card, but I didn’t want the shaker feature to distract completely from the rest of the design, so I used vellum instead of clear acetate.
I stamped the word “welcome” onto the vellum and white heat embossed, then die cut the word “baby” from white cardstock and glued it on as well. I die cut a stitched square frame from white cardstock and again from white fun foam, then sandwiched the vellum paper between the cardstock frame and fun foam frame.
I stamped a sentiment from the Helen/Harry Hippo stamp set with black ink and clear heat embossed. I added a single die cut outline heart cut out using the Heart Strings die. The matching purple sequins in the shaker portion of the card are cute, and subtle, and reinforce the sweet baby theme of the card.
For the tag card above, I stamped, colored with alcohol markers and die cut each of the hippos, plus a flamingo from the Crocs and Gators stamp set and matching dies. I die cut a stitched tag from the patterned paper card panel as well as from a couple of other patterned papers that coordinated with the two hippos. I stamped the sentiment onto the top tag with Versafine Onyx black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
I covered the tag die opening left in the card panel with the two green/blue tags and glued them in place. Then I covered the back of the peach colored tag with dimensional foam tape and positioned it exactly where it was originally on the background paper. Then I added a hand dyed silk ribbon to the tag top and a small black cardstock die cut heart from the Heart Strings die set for an embellishment.
Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome day!
I really love Norine's coloring on these hippos and how they look soft and cuddly like they are made out of cloth. I haven't decided which of the Animal House stamps and dies I'm going to use but I'm going to be trying some of these faux-fabric techniques out for myself soon!
P.S. Are you a member of the Animal House auto-ship program? We shipped these hippos to members in June.
Not a member? You can order them now. Or if you'd like to save 25% on cute critter stamps and dies each month, sign up to become an Animal House auto-ship member!
Thank you for the tutorials, the format that you use is very helpful. I can take my computer to my craft place and scroll down for each step. I am so glad that I have discovered Technique Tuesday!
