Die Week: Giving It To You Straight

Hi everyone!

Teri here, and I'm geeked to be sharing a project as part of Die Week here on the Technique Tuesday blog.

We are showcasing projects all week that were made with TT's DIY Steel Dies. One style of dies I really enjoy are the Straight Talk dies. These fun dies can be used on their own or used with Technique Tuesday's Say It stamp sets. Love it when things can be used together!

I used the Straight Talk - Hugs die to make all of the Hugs words on this card.

And those stamped words? Yep. They are from the Say It - Hugs clear stamp set.

It was pretty easy to create the Hugs words! I cut strips of cardstock and die-cut the Hugs word out of them. One of the cool parts of the Straight Talk dies is they are small dies, but you can use your scissors or a paper trimmer to make nice, long lines with the words.

The process works a bit like this.

Die-cut a word.

Straight Talk - Hugs die from TechniqueTuesday.comThen use your scissors or paper trimmer to extend the line.

You end up with something like what you see here.

Hugs card by Teri Anderson for TechniqueTuesday.comSince I used these lines on a card, I started out with pretty small strips of cardstock. I want to say they were about 4 1/4" x 1". But I could have easily made big strips to use on a scrapbook page. I just would have wanted to start with 12" long strips of cardstock. Just like before, I'd cut the word out of them and then I'd use my scissors or paper trimmer to extend the lines.

By the way, you might be wondering about those hearts on my card. They were cut with the Nested Hearts steel dies. Hugs and hearts go hand in hand, if you ask me.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow. Another Technique Tuesday Creative Team member will be here with another project made with our dies! Hope to see you then!

Die Week: A Colorful Card from Tobi

Hi everyone!

Welcome to Die Week! We'll be sharing some fantastic projects here all week that feature Technique Tuesday's DIY Steel Dies.

Did you know Technique Tuesday offers more than 70 different steel dies? Our DIY Steel Dies make it fast and easy to add dimension to cards, pocket page scrapbooks, traditional layouts and all your craft projects. Here are just a few things you should know about them:

  • They are easy to use! These steel dies are universally compatible with leading die cutting machines. You don't have to drag out a computer! Just run the metal die through your machine. Use the die-cut accents as is. Or stamp on them to make a unique embellishment for your project.
  • They are versatile! Unlike digital cut files (SVGs) which work best with paper, steel dies can be used to cut out other materials like washi tape, thin chipboard, balsa wood, cork, foam and more! You can choose from so many materials to make truly unique projects.
  • They are high quality! All our dies are made from high quality steel right here in the USA.

But what can you make with them? Sit back, relax and get ready to be inspired. We've got a "die-namite" group of projects to share with you this week. And we've got some great tips too!

So let's get this party started with a fun card from Tobi Crawford.

A card by Tobi Crawford for TechniqueTuesday.com

I just love what Tobi did with the butterflies she cut with the Happy Butterfly steel dies.

Happy Butterfly steel dies from TechniqueTuesday.com

To really make them pop, Tobi brushed watercolor paint under each butterfly. This is a great way to make lace-style die-cuts, like the butterfly, stand out. If you don't have watercolor paints, consider using pencils or markers to scribble color underneath them.

Also, here's a fun trick for adhering dies like the butterflies. Rather than putting glue under the whole die, only put it under the thickest part of the die. Tobi only placed glue under the body of the butterflies. She didn't put any glue under the wings. Not only did this hold the butterflies onto her card, but it also allowed her to bend the wings so the butterflies look like they really are flying. Bravo, Tobi!

We hope you will come stop on by tomorrow! We've got another fun project made with Technique Tuesday's steel dies to share with you!

Story Card Sunday: What I See

Hi everyone!

Sunday means we've got a brand new Story Card to share with you.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comThis week's Story Card is pocket page-friendly. It would also work on a traditional scrapbook page. Card maker? You can use it too. Just change out the sentiment to something card-friendly!

Let me show you how you can make one like it.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comStart by cutting a base card from cardstock and a second base card from glossy cardstock with the Story Card steel dies.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comUse watermark ink to stamp a pocket dot pattern with the Lots of Dots clear stamp set onto the top and bottom of the base card cut from glossy cardstock.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comSponge dye ink over the polka dots. The more ink you apply, the more you'll see the polka dot pattern resist the ink.

Cut off the top and bottom of the glossy base card. Adhere the pieces to the cardstock base card. Throw out the middle of the middle of the glossy base card.

Line up the two phrases from the Very Real stamp set onto a clear stamping block. Stamp the words onto the base card.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comUse purple ink to stamp a line of dots between the phrases.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comFinish the Story Card by tying two pieces of twine around and onto the Story Card.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comThat wasn't too hard was it?

I'll be back again next week with another Story Card to share with you. Hope to see you then.

Story Card Sunday: This Is Happy

Hi everyone!

It's time for another Story Card Sunday! Meet this week's pocket page-friendly Story Card.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comNot a pocket page memory keeper? This Story Card would also look swell on a traditional scrapbook page or greeting card!

Let me show you how to make one like it.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comStart by die-cutting a base card with the Story Card steel dies. You'll also want to cut one butterfly with the Happy Butterfly steel dies. Save the panel you cut the butterfly out of. You are going to need it later!

Set the panel you cut the butterfly out of on your Story Card. You are going to use it like a mask. Sponge ink onto about half of the exposed space.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comSponge a different color of ink onto the other half of the exposed space.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comRemove the mask. You'll end up with something that looks like this.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comSpritz some spray mist onto the panel. I'm using a white spray mist, but you may want to use gold or silver spray mist. Let the mist dry.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comFlip the butterfly over. Apply glue only to the center of the butterfly. Bend the wings slightly to give the butterfly dimension.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comAdhere the butterfly to the Story Card.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comStamp a sentiment onto the card. The one I am using is from the Oh Happy Day clear stamp set from Technique Tuesday.

A Story Card Sunday tutorial from TechniqueTuesday.comFinish the Story Card by adding a clip to it and tying on some twine or ribbon.

I hope you enjoyed this week's Story Card Sunday! Be sure to tune in next week to learn how to make a brand new Story Card. Hope to see you then!
