Technique Tuesday - Ideas and Inspiration Blog: Use Dies with Technique Tiles

Hello Technique Tuesday fans!

Laura here, and I want to talk to you about Technique Tuesday's Technique Tiles today.

Technique Tiles come both precut in some great shapes and as uncut sheets labeled Naked to Neato (hah!) in the Technique Tuesday store. The sheets of tiles can be cut with your own dies, and as thick and sturdy as they are they also hold up well when cut into intricate shapes.

Let me show you how to cut them!

The sandwich for cutting a tile with the Cuttlebug and a Sizzix die is: B plate, tile, die and B plate.

And here are the cut out pieces.

I used Tim Holtz’s Heart With Wings die, which I bought when it first came out and never used. Shame on me!

And here is how I’m “neato-ed” up my tiles:

I used the foam blending tool and Fired Brick Distress ink for the scrolled heart. The tiles take ink beautifully, and since they are cream colored the ink looks the color it’s supposed to look. There are no brown or gray undertones like you would get with using regular chipboard.

Then I used Tumbled Glass for the solid heart.

Then I filled in the gutters and used my fingers to evenly coat the whole piece with Stickles.

When the Stickles were dry, I finished the card:

To color the crown, I used a silver pigment inkpad. The stamps are from the Love Always Wins stamp set.

I have tried cutting the tiles with some wafer thin dies I have from other manufacturers and they do not cut all the way through. The tiles are too thick. Old school dies are the way to go!
